How We Are Regulated

Credit Unions

Credit unions are autonomous, cooperative financial institutions. The board of directors of each credit union is accountable to depositors. The credit union Board of Directors is responsible to ensure that the credit union is operated in a sound and prudent manner and is responsible to establish credit union policy and report results to depositors.

All Saskatchewan credit unions are regulated by Deposit Guarantee Corporation.

Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation

As the deposit guarantor, Deposit Guarantee Corporation is accountable to credit union depositors. We invest time and effort in building effective working relationships with credit unions and Credit Union Central of Saskatchewan to help maintain confidence in the strength and stability of the credit union system.

As the regulator of credit unions, the Corporation is accountable to the provincial government’s Registrar of Credit Unions. We are subject to provincial and federal inspection to assure that prudent programs are in place to adequately safeguard deposits held in Saskatchewan credit unions.
